SCOUTING IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

THE SCOUT ASSOCIATION

Scouting in the United Kingdom was founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, in 1907. Baden-Powell is regarded as the founder of world Scouting.

Membership in the Scout Association is voluntary with funding coming from individual membership dues, Scout shops and general appeals and donations.

The Scouting activities are about involvement and aim to encourage responsibility, self-reliance, learning of special skills and the appreciation if the world we live in. The importance of teamwork is emphasized in games, which are cooperative rather than competitive.

Involvement with the community is a very important part of Scouting and all members are a part in activities such as fund raising for other charities, conservation

Projects, litter clearing and giving practical help to those in need.

The Scout Association in the United Kingdom is a multi-cultural, multi-faith organization.
