Scouting in Sudan began in 1916 in Atbra City by Mr. Harry Jackson. Scouting followed in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan in 1919 and Girl Guides in 1928. Scouting developed slowly in the years 1916 through 1935. Scouting was officially founded in 1935. Sudan became a member of the World Bureau (WOSM) in 1956.
Sudanese Scouts are active in serving the community in leprosy projects, aids prevention, family planning, health awareness and many other projects in cooperation with other organizations such as the United Nations.
The outdoor life is one of the fundamental activities in Sudan. The country has many forests and jungles suitable for outdoor camping and hiking activities.
Membership on January 1, 1998 was reported to be 13,550 registered Scouts.

Cub Scouts- to 11 years
Boy Scouts- 12 to 16 years
Rover Scouts- 17 to 21 years
Besides the above, Sudan has Air and Sea Scouts.
