SCOUTING IN JAPAN

BOY SCOUTS OF NIPPON (BSN)

The Scout movement spread to Japan in 1913 soon after it was founded in 1907. The National Association was organized in 1922. Since then, despite the short disruption of World War II, the Association has grown steadily and established itself an eminent place for itself in social education for young people. The Scout organization became a founder member of the World Organization (WOSM) and was readmitted as a full member in 1950.

The aim of the Association, as well as Scouting, is to help young people become responsible humanitarian citizens, who can appreciate and practice loyalty, courage and self-respect in an international perspective. With the support of volunteer leaders, the Scout Movement in Japan provides a fun filled, challenging programs, with an emphasis on developing each boy’s character, health, abilities and sense of service to others.

The Scout Association in Japan is a non-political, voluntary movement, open to all regardless of origin, race or creed. Those who want to become members are welcomed to achieve the ideal of Scouting for all boys.
