SCOUTING IN JAMAICA

Scouting was founded in Jamaica in 1910. Jamaica was recognized by the World Bureau in 1963. There are 4,133 registered Scouts in 1998.

Community service is a major part of Jamaican Scouting. There are camps held for disadvantaged youngsters, literacy campaigns, cleanups, tree planting and relief work during natural disasters.

 Program Sections:

 Cubs- ages 8 to 11

 Scouts- ages 11 to 15

 Venturers- ages 15 to 17

On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to love and serve God, my country and the Queen, to help people and to obey the Scout Law.

Scout Law:

 A Scout is to be trusted

 A Scout is loyal

 A Scout is friendly and considerate

 A Scout makes good use of his time

 A Scout is careful of his possessions and all properties

 A Scout has courage in all difficulties

 A Scout obeys the orders of those in authority

 A Scout is clean in thought, word and deed
