THE SCOUT ASSOCIATION OF HONG KONG

The Scout Movement in Hong Kong started in 1909 when informal groups of Scouts were established. In 1911, British merchants and army officers formally founded the organization. The Hong Kong branch was formally registered with the London headquarters of the Boy Scout Association. In 1977, The Hong Kong branch was accepted as the 111^th member of the World Organization (WOSM).

The membership in 1998 of the Scout Association of Hong Kong was 53,049.

Scouts actively participate in community service projects on a regular basis. The very high density of population and shortage of open land, make Hong Kong Scouting activities somewhat different than Scouting in most countries.

In 1994, a 25 story "Hong Kong Scout Center" was completed. It is located in the heart of Kowloon. 4 floors are used exclusively by the Scout Association as administrative offices, Scout shop, Scout Gallery and Commissioner’s Club. There are also lecture rooms, training rooms, conference hall, multi-purpose hall and a guest house with 536 rooms available for rental to Scout members as well as the public. It is the tallest Scout building in the world.
