SCOUTING IN THE CONGO

FEDERATION DES SCOUTS DE LA REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO

THE SCOUT FEDERATION OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

Scouting was officially founded in 1924 in the Congo and became a member of the World Bureau (WOSM) in 1963. Scouting was banned in the Congo in 1965 by the government but is coming to life again with the end of 27 years of Socialist rule.

There are 10 National Scout Associations, reflecting the various religions denominations, local African traditions and the political situation.

There was a general meeting of all the Scout Associations with the intention of helping pave the way for creating one National Scout Association. The goal is to have one National Association which will eventually be recognized by the World Scout Organization.
