SCOUT FEDERATION OF BURKINO FASO

Burkina Faso was formerly called Upper Volta. Scouting pays particular attention to rural Scouting and community development in rural areas. Scouts participate in development projects run by the government by running large work camps planting trees, operating rural and urban centers and improving the water supplies.

The Scout Federation of Burkino Faso consists of Les Scouts du Burkina Faso and Les Eclaireurs et Eclaireuses du Burkina Faso.

Scouting was officially founded in Burkino Faso in 1943 and membership in the World Bureau (WOSM) was in 1972.

Total membership at the end of 1998 was reported as being 10,165 registered members.

Program Sections:

Pre-Louveteaux/ Pre-Cubs- age 7

Louvetaux/ Cubs- ages 7 to 12

Eclaireurs/ Scouts- ages 12 to 17

Aines/ Rovers- ages 17 to 25

Scout Oath:

On my honour I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people at all times and to obey the Scout Law.

A Scout is a friend to animals

A Scout obeys orders of his parents, patrol leaders or Scoutmaster without question

A Scout is clean in thought, word and deed
