All boys and girls are welcome to become members. In the Cub and Rover sections, units are co-educational.
Scouts carry out literacy campaigns and offer courses in child rearing. They are involved in community projects such as digging wells, anti-malaria campaigns, building village schools and developing modern farms where children may spend several weeks learning to read and grow food.
Membership in Beninois Scouting was 11,587 registered members at the end of 1998.
